Tents
Tents come in an array of styles, sizes, and quality. I’m looking at large family tents for camping and to use in an emergency.
Because this website is devoted to preparedness, we will be looking for the best tents for that purpose. If your home is destroyed by a storm, fire, or other catastrophes what will you use for shelter? The answer to that question depends on how much money you have.
Billionaires buy private islands and build luxury bunkers.
I don’t have the money to even stay in a hotel or rent another house temporarily. I plan to camp on my property to protect it from looters.
I want a large tent that can accommodate my family. Large tents usually come in one of four styles:
1. Yurt
2. Cabin
3. Teepee
4. Popup
I prefer a popup tent because they are easy to set up and I want to use my tent for camping. But, then I did my research. I found that tent materials vary from cotton to polyester, nylon, and other man-made materials. Man-made materials don’t breathe so condensation is a problem. They are lighter and stronger than cotton so they make sense when hiking in the backcountry.
Review
I was looking for a large popup tent, but even the largest popup had a ceiling of only 6 feet high. I’m six feet tall and I want some headroom. I found a yurt that is much better for what I need. Again, know how you will use your tent, do your research, and know how you want to use your tent.

My yurt is made from Army-spec cotton canvas. It can sleep up to 12 people. My choice is the large yurt from white duck
Pros
Waterproof
Breathable, no condensation, and no carbon monoxide build-up
Ideal for car camping
Large enough to comfortably shelter a large group.
It can be set up by three people in less than 10 minutes
Cons
Heavier than manmade materials
More subject to mildew
Is not rip resistant
Requires more care in storage.
Conclusion
I needed a weatherproof tent large enough to comfortably accommodate my family. I found it in a large yurt.
