Hawaii is the most isolated land in the world. Created by a volcanic hotspot in the middle of the Pacific Ocean 3000 miles from the nearest land it is a miracle that any plant or animals reach these island. Yet, Hawaii has some of the most biologically diverse ecosystems in the world.
Because of human influences, we have more endangered species and more extinctions than any other state in the United States. Many people work very hard to protect our native ecosystems, preserve the Hawaiian Culture which is so tightly integrated with the land and guide Hawaii to a the sustainable, robust, diversified Hawaii we want to leave to our great grandchildren.
